Gov. O’Malley Wants to Spend More Money He Doesn’t Have

Subject: Gov. O’Malley Wants to Spend More Money He Doesn’t Have

Earlier this week, Gov. Martin O’Malley announced a plan to spend $1 billion for school construction. Even though we still have a $389 million hole left in this year’s budget and a projected $8.3 billion long term structural deficit, O’Malley believes that more spending is the answer. This unhinged appetite for spending our dollars is exactly why Maryland is in trouble.

Businesses don’t want to come here because taxes are too high and taxpayers want to leave because the politicians in Annapolis have no idea how to stop spending. One thing is for sure: if the same crew in the State House gets re-elected, we will be facing the largest tax increase in state history – AGAIN! This will surely kill any chance for an economic comeback and new jobs headed to Maryland.

We must educate our neighbors, family, friends and co-workers to this destruction of our beloved state. On Wednesday, July 28th, the state Board of Public Works has their bi-monthly meeting to discuss the state’s finances. Gov. O’Malley, Comptroller Peter Franchot and State Treasurer Nancy Kopp convene twice each month to approve state contracts and amend the budget if necessary. AFP-Maryland encourages you to ATTEND THIS MEETING! This is your chance to ask the leaders of our state how they intend to balance the budget and why they are proposing $1 billion in NEW spending!

Gov. O’Malley balanced this year’s budget using $389 million of federal money that is not appropriated. Our budget is out of balance! Let’s ask the tough questions and hold our leader’s feet to the fire. For more information on this meeting, contact Glen Barker today.

Our Worcester County chapter was at it again in Ocean City – this time celebrating July 4th! Over 175 members gathered on the heavily traveled Route 50 to let passers-by “November is Coming.” Kudos to Steve Lind and the team for making this event a success. Also – be sure to check out their billboard next time you leave Ocean City!
