Former Maryland governor Bob Ehrlich on Wednesday pledged to invest $7 million in the state’s TV and film industry if he wins reelection.

Ehrlich created a $6 million film production tax credit as governor in 2005, which Gov. Martin O’Malley reduced to $1 million during his term.

Ehrlich boasted that the TV series “The Wire” and “Homicide,” as well as the movie “Ladder 49″ were filmed in the state during his administration.

“We ought to return Maryland to the forefront of TV and film production,” Ehrlich said when he announced the initiative Wednesday. “When I’m governor, we will.”
