We are writing to invite you be a part of the Hagerstown TEA Party planning meeting. We will hold a meeting next Monday night, May 10th, from 7 – 8PM at the Pizza Hut on Dual Highway. This meeting will have the three following specific goals: 1) To set the calendar for 2010 TEA Party events, as far as we can, 2) Establish a schedule for Monthly meetings, and 3) Outreach – Develop action steps to have a positive impact on our community.
The TEA Party events are typically linked to the National TEA Parties, and we do have an idea of what is to come. We will be creating the calendar for the rest of the year.
Our plan is to begin having monthly meetings with a purpose. Since the stated goal of the Hagerstown TEA Party is to help educate and inform participants, as well as our community, we hope to offer helpful and practical meeting themes throughout the year. This will allow like-minded people to come together to learn about our Constitution and America’s history, as well as practice practical skills, such as writing letters to the editor and speaking to the community. Specifically, we are hoping to allow Jim Warner, a Constitutional Lawyer and former POW, to teach classes on the Constitution in the fall.
Due to the success of the TEA Party movement among ordinary Americans, the press and liberal politicians are attempting to label TEA Party participants as everything from “racists” to “extremists”, even linking the movement to the Oklahoma Bombings. As outrageous as this may seem, they are hoping to deter people who may have thought positively about the TEA Parties from becoming involved.
We have several positive, community outreach ideas, the first of which being Memorial Day. What a great opportunity to show our appreciation to our Veterans for their service to our country. Here are a few thoughts: Have a patriotic TEA Party float/walkers in patriotic or military outfits in the Sharpsburg Memorial Day parade, baking cookies to take to VFW Halls for their meetings or Memorial Day celebrations, taking cards/flowers/etc… to Veterans in local nursing homes, having a sign-waving in the downtown square of Hagerstown with flags and “THANK YOU” signs to our veterans…from the TEA Party. Do you have some other ideas on how to make a positive, patriotic statement on Memorial Day? Do any of those ideas appeal to you? How about ideas for the rest of the summer or year? Please bring your thoughts and calendars – We will nail down specifics at that meeting!
We would love to have your help with the planning. This is a very exciting time, and there are many great things that we could get together to do… There is strength in numbers! If you are not able to make the meeting, please let us know if you have any thoughts that would like to be considered.
We are SO thankful for all of the participation from our friends and neighbors in this tri-state area, and look forward to making a positive difference with you in our community AND our country!
Hope you have a nice weekend, and we look forward to talking with you soon!
