Candidate For Senate, Delegate Chris Shank sends a Letter to the Editor on Illegal Immigration

To the editor:

The arrogance of the federal government’s approach to Arizona’s immigration law illustrates how elected officials at all levels of government have come to view themselves as rulers rather than public servants accountable to the people.

Rather than see Arizona’s law for what it is – an effort to protect citizens from the dangers of open borders, the federal government from President Obama down has instead chosen to criticize, demonize, and finally sue Arizona for taking the initiative to protect its citizens. If the federal government had simply done its job, Arizona would not have had to act.

If elected to the (Maryand) state Senate, I will introduce legislation similar to Arizona’s to deal with the pressing problem of illegal immigration. Maryland desperately needs to close its status as a sanctuary state for its 250,000 illegal immigrants.

In these austere budget times not a dime of the taxpayers’ dollars can be wasted. We need to recapture taxpayer dollars that are being funneled to illegal immigrants. The cost to the state taxpayers for education, medical care and incarceration alone is estimated at $1.4 billion annually, according to a report by the Federation for American Immigration Reform. That is a cost of $800 per family in the state of Maryland and is unacceptably high. We must immediately cease all funding to organizations like CASA de Maryland who use taxpayer money to help illegal immigrants break our laws.

Maryland must require proof of legal presence to obtain government services. Hardworking American citizens are losing their jobs because illegal aliens are doing the work more cheaply. This is unfair and government cannot tolerate it, much less subsidize it. Businesses that receive state contracts must be required to participate in the federal E-Verify program to ensure that their employees are legally authorized to work. With unemployment still hovering at 10 percent in this county, this measure will ensure that only those who are lawfully admitted in the United States can work here. We must also close the loopholes that still exist in our driver’s licensing system and become completely compliant with the federal Real ID program.

Finally, every law enforcement agency in Maryland should participate in the federal 287g program. I introduced this legislation last session and will continue to support this effort to improve the safety of our communities. This allows law enforcement officers to act as immigration officers in the enforcement of U.S. immigration laws. Frederick County has had a great deal of success combating gangs and improving public safety.

The federal government would rather waste time condemning the actions of Arizona than working toward securing our borders. It is clear that it will be left to the states to enforce immigration law.

The United States is a land of immigrants, but first and foremost we respect the rule of law and must act accordingly.

Maryland Citizens and Legal Immigrants Unite in Rally against Casa De Maryland and Illegal Aliens in Silver Spring – Day Labor Site

Maryland Citizens and Legal Immigrants Unite in Rally against Casa De Maryland and Illegal Aliens in Silver Spring – My Report May 22nd, 2010

Today, Legal Immigrants and Legal Citizens of Maryland joined forces to Rally against the Lawless Organization Casa De Maryland, who blatantly state, “Regardless of Immigration Status, we will find you work”. Today, those Law Breakers held up make shift signs as we caught them completely off guard. The Signs Read, “Maryland Loves Immigrants”, well, that is true in 2 ways, one, yes, if you come here legally, we will embrace you and take you under our wings and support you, second, Maryland Citizens despises the non tax paying, social service, health care sucking dry Illegal Aliens in our State. Funny thing happened along the way, Governor O’Malley took a stance a few weeks ago, and now his comrade in arms, Doug Gansler is doing the same, stating that Illegal Immigration is a Federal Issue. Well, let me tell you something, you could not be further from the truth, if the Illegal Aliens, not undocumented, but Illegal Alien enters our state illegally, not paying taxes, using our tax dollars to promote job placement regardless of immigration status, then yes, it is your problem and since you refuse to uphold the laws of the state and the land, you to are the problem and not the solution. I would show you some pictures from today’s rally, but why should I? You ignore the Maryland Citizen and Legal Immigrant, and would probably find someway to use it against us, after all, we are only standing up for our Constitutional Right to Free Speech and Assemble and Protest. Let this be the pink slip notice to remind you, come November, we, THE PEOPLE will decide if you should stay or go. To the ilk supporters of Casa De Maryland, Joe Vallario, Doyle Neimann, Saqib Ali, Ana Sol, Pena-Melnyk, Harrington, Ramirez, Frosh, Mike Miller, Governor O’Malley, Susan Lee, Jill Carter, and many many others to name a few, you have destroyed Maryland with your support of this Criminal Organization. The People of Maryland are demanding a Federal Led Investigation into the going’s on of this group and we are also demanding the IRS take a look at that financials to find those who are donating from outside of this country who is on the USA watch list.

Today, along with Legal Immigrants who stood with us, we heard the horrific stories of Business Owners loosing their work because of under cutting bids, day laborers taking the jobs that the legal citizen should get, but because Maryland allows the Lawless Activities to continue, boss man picks up these illegals at cheap labor costs and does not report their payroll activities to the IRS, thus, saving a few bucks on the backs of illegals. Maryland has become the poster child for the Law Breakers with Arizona on Illegal Immigration, Driver’s License’s, Voting Rights through Maryland’s Motor Voter Law, Free Health care on our Tax Dollars, Free Education, Incarceration Costs, and on and on and on. When will it stop? I guess when it affects you and your family like it has those who have been murdered, raped, burglarized, hit by an illegal alien driving drunk? How about the poor children being victimized by Illegal Aliens? How about when you lose your business, or contracting work because boss man can pay less for illegals then those who are doing it by the book?

Today, we held Casa De Maryland accountable for their misdeeds and misuse of tax dollars and the assistance of Illegal Aliens in our Communities. We will no longer take a back seat. To the Governor who says he treats everyone Equally regardless of status, well sir, you have a problem enforcing state and federal immigration laws. To Doug Gansler, unless you plain on helping hold these organizations accountable, stay out of it, you are doing more damage supporting Illegal Immigration then fixing the problem. We don’t need you standing up for Gay Rights, we need you to stand up and Investigate the misuse of Tax Dollars and to take action at the requests of Legal Citizens of our once great state. To Peter Franchot, a man of his word and has always done the people’s work, one can only hope you decide to have the IRS look into this Organization and request they open the books.

To those Delegates and Senators who approved more tax dollars this year, and the 1 million dollar vote, you are on notice for November. The Status Quo Politician must be held accountable for not listening to their employer, The Maryland Tax Payer. Remember, you work for me and for the rest of the legal immigrants and legal citizens, not Illegal Aliens or to further your career or yourself.

Today, we took a step forward at reclaiming our once great state, and we will not stop until you do the work and will of the people. You should have seen it down there, trash everywhere in the housing community, about 75 or so Day Laborer’s waiting at the 7-11 at the corner of Piney Branch and University Blvd. That my friend’s is loitering and the police in Montgomery County should be citing those there, at which point, they can check the Immigration Status, but as Chief Manger stated and I quote, “I am not going to ask my officers to take a couple extra hours checking immigration status if they run a red light”, to which I say, why not, that’s why we are paying your salary, to protect the community, not ignore it. It’s time for Maryland to wake up and do what is right, stop ignoring our pleas for help.

In closing, I will remind you, we support the Legal Immigrant who comes here, fills out their paperwork and does it appropriately, if they have to wait, well, so what, that is not a reason to enter our state and steal our jobs and live here illegally. Think about this, if you cross over to other countries, say in Africa, Illegally, you know what they do to you? I think you already know that answer, that is how they deal with breaking the law, but here, you can stay. Or how about this, in Mexico, if you are caught a second time coming into their country illegally, they can jail you for up to 6 years. Lets adopt Mexico’s Illegal Immigration Laws and SB 1070 in Maryland and then we will see how Maryland’s budget will grow, unemployment will drop, and crime will go down. As an official blogger and writer, I can only write what they ask me to write, nothing more, nothing less. Now let’s get down to fixing the problem and make Maryland a Template for the rest of the Country to follow, not a mockery and embarrassment.

Thank you for your time.

Information Regarding Casa De Maryland’s Lawless Day Labor Centers sponsored with your Tax Dollars

Casa De Marylands Vision Statement - Regardless of Immigration StatusCasa De Maryland gets funding from your State Delegates and Senators, the Governor’s personal Governor’s fund, Montgomery and PG County, and at the Federal Level.  Here is a description of these Lawless Day Labor Centers.

“Day Laborer Centers” are hiring sites supposedly created to deal with the problems caused by unskilled workers (largely illegal aliens) who congregate on street corners waiting for persons seeking laborers to drive by. In communities like Gaithersburg and Wheaton, these informal hiring sites have caused traffic disturbances, and the lack of sanitary facilities has often led to public urination.  Other common complaints include public drunkenness and sexual harassment of female pedestrians

In response, local government and private groups (often including government-funded organizations like CASA de Maryland) have established formal hiring sites to get these workers off the streets. The stated goal is to establish an orderly process for the workers to match up with employers and to establish a record of the employer so that if there is a complaint of non-payment, there is a basis for investigation.
You might think, “What’s wrong with?”   The answer is — Many things!

DAY LABOR CENTERS IGNORE LAWS AGAINST ILLEGAL WORKERS

The main reason that day labor hiring sites should not be tolerated is that they ignore the work status of the worker, thus facilitating illegal immigration. The center managers argue that it is the employer’s responsibility to verify the work eligibility of the employee hired. While this may be technically correct, if there is local government support for a hiring site, it is reasonable for a prospective employer to assume that the worker who is made available through the site is legally entitled to work. Thus, the hiring centers may not only facilitate the employment of unauthorized workers, they may also encourage to unwittingly break the law.

HIRING ILLEGAL ALIENS AT A DAY LABOR CENTER IS A CRIME

The 1986 of the Immigration Reduction and Control Act (IRCA), makes it illegal for an employer to hire an illegal alien. Violation of this law involves the felony of concealing, harboring, and shielding illegal aliens from detection and is demonstrated when employees lack work authorization documents, are paid in cash, Social Security or federal taxes are not withheld, and the employer fails to pay employer contributions.

DAY LABOR CENTERS DRIVE DOWN WORK CONDITIONS FOR LEGAL WORKERS

Maryland already operates “One-Stop Career Centers” that are federally funded and designed to help Maryland citizens find work.  Day labor centers circumvent and undermine these taxpayer-funded operations.  Employers use day labor centers instead of One-Stops to avoid legal standards, pay less than the minimum wage, fail to withhold salary for taxes, and avoid paying into the unemployment fund and other expenses. This decreases job opportunities for legal workers who are unwilling to work for cash payments under the table. As a result, the wages of qualified workers suffer. The effect of the day labor centers is, therefore, to benefit the illegal alien workers and the employers who are breaking the law in hiring them, while at the same time undercutting the earning potential and opportunities for some of the Maryland’s most needy workers. It also increases the burden on taxpayers because of the cost of general assistance provided to the out-of-work residents.

DAY LABOR CENTERS DEPRESS WORKING STANDARDS

Many of the employers of day laborers are “fly-by-night” contractors. Construction work is highly competitive, and unless the contractor is working on a government contract, the cost of wages may determine who wins the contract. In this kind of environment, the contractor who cuts labor costs has an advantage.  A contractor who is scrupulous about respecting the law and hiring only legal workers is thus at a comparative disadvantage. Over time, greater pressure will develop for all competitors to use illegal workers, and the wages that are offered to day laborers may become depressed so far that legal workers are unwilling to take these jobs.

DAY LABOR CENTERS ATTRACT ADDITIONAL ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS

A day labor hiring center that makes no distinction between legal and illegal workers sends a message to illegal workers that our society does not care whether a worker is legally in the country or is in violation of our immigration law. It also invites other illegal aliens to come and take advantage of the inviting environment.  Because of its day labor centers and other social services, Maryland is known throughout Central America to be the preferred destination for illegal aliens!

DAY LABOR CENTERS DON’T WORK!

In every community where Maryland has established day labor centers, there continues to be an active market for day labors in nearby public spaces.  Why?  Because the kind of unscrupulous business person that would hire illegal aliens is probably illegal himself – unlicensed, not paying taxes, and likely to cheat his workers.  Such businesses do not want to register with the day labor center.  Once the day laborers realize this, they stop using the center, and go back to congregating on street corners.  Plus, the day labor centers won’t serve workers who are drunk, on drugs, or act disorderly.

DISPELLING SOME OF THE MYTHS Posted on April 28, 2010 by U.S. Constitutional Free Press

By
Neal Boortz

Let’s get this straight about this illegal immigration bill in Arizona: As I said earlier, the bill clearly states that law enforcement can only ask a person about their immigration status in the course of a lawful encounter and upon reasonable suspicion that the person is in the country illegally. Randomly pulling people over would be a violation of the new law and the left knows this but they keep telling the same lie over and over.

A blogger, Greg Patterson, dispels a few more myths that the ObamaMedia continues to spread:

The broad anti-immigrant bill passed by the Legislature this week makes it a crime to be in the country illegal:

Wrong. It’s already a crime to be in the country illegally. SB 1070 made it a STATE crime by copying the federal language. This makes a huge difference because opponents used Dionne’s quote to say that Arizona was adopting its own immigration policy as well as criminalizing being in the country illegally. Both of those assumptions are wrong.

The need to carry proper ‘papers’ falls squarely on Arizona’s Latino population — including those born and raised in the Grand Canyon State.

Wrong–and frankly outrageous. Federal law already requires resident aliens to carry registration documents. SB 1070 makes it a state crime to violate the federal law. The law doesn’t apply to “those born and raised in the Grand Canyon State” because they are obviously citizens. The law also lists documents that provide a presumption of citizenship one of which is a Driver’s License. There is no needfor citizens to carry their birth certificate or passport. Once again, if you read the explanation in Sunday’s Republic, you will see how incorrect the editorial is.

The bill invites racial profiling and ignores the fact that Latinos are an intrinsic part of Arizona’s history and its future.

Wrong. Actually, the bill prohibits racial profiling by saying that race can only be considered to the “extent permitted by the United States or Arizona Constitution.” And under no circumstances can the officer “solely” consider race, color or national origin. (He can “consider” race as a factor just like he can under federal and Arizona law now.) Sunday’s version doesn’t even address this point because the bill makes it so clear that racial profiling is NOT allowed that it wasn’t even worth a mention–that’s because there’s no change in the law. Racial profiling was not allowed before the bill and it’s not allowed after the bill.

Now Attorney General Eric Holder says that the federal government may challenge Arizona’s new immigration law. My response? Bring it on. The Heritage Foundation argues that there is a constitutional case to be made for Arizona:

“Under the Tenth Amendment which preserves the traditional police powers of the states to control their own jurisdictions … The Heritage Foundation has advocated for extensive innovation at the lowest levels of government in terms of immigration enforcement. A 2009 report of Matt Mayer highlights how “state and local governments must [and can] do more” to do something about the illegal immigration problem – a conclusion that came from a series of THF roundtables aimed at talking to state and local officials about pressing public policy problems.”

How Mexico Treats Illegal AliensPosted on April 28, 2010 by U.S. Constitutional Free Press

by Michelle Malkin

exican President Felipe Calderon has accused Arizona of opening the door “to intolerance, hate, discrimination and abuse in law enforcement.” But Arizona has nothing on Mexico when it comes to cracking down on illegal aliens. While open-borders activists decry new enforcement measures signed into law in “Nazi-zona” last week, they remain deaf, dumb or willfully blind to the unapologetically restrictionist policies of our neighbors to the south.
The Arizona law bans sanctuary cities that refuse to enforce immigration laws, stiffens penalties against illegal alien day laborers and their employers, makes it a misdemeanor for immigrants to fail to complete and carry an alien registration document, and allows the police to arrest immigrants unable to show documents proving they are in the U.S. legally. If those rules constitute the racist, fascist, xenophobic, inhumane regime that the National Council of La Raza, Al Sharpton, Catholic bishops and their grievance-mongering followers claim, then what about these regulations and restrictions imposed on foreigners?
– The Mexican government will bar foreigners if they upset “the equilibrium of the national demographics.” How’s that for racial and ethnic profiling?
– If outsiders do not enhance the country’s “economic or national interests” or are “not found to be physically or mentally healthy,” they are not welcome. Neither are those who show “contempt against national sovereignty or security.” They must not be economic burdens on society and must have clean criminal histories. Those seeking to obtain Mexican citizenship must show a birth certificate, provide a bank statement proving economic independence, pass an exam and prove they can provide their own health care.
– Illegal entry into the country is equivalent to a felony punishable by two years’ imprisonment. Document fraud is subject to fine and imprisonment; so is alien marriage fraud. Evading deportation is a serious crime; illegal re-entry after deportation is punishable by ten years’ imprisonment. Foreigners may be kicked out of the country without due process and the endless bites at the litigation apple that illegal aliens are afforded in our country (see, for example, President Obama’s illegal alien aunt — a fugitive from deportation for eight years who is awaiting a second decision on her previously rejected asylum claim).
– Law enforcement officials at all levels — by national mandate — must cooperate to enforce immigration laws, including illegal alien arrests and deportations. The Mexican military is also required to assist in immigration enforcement operations. Native-born Mexicans are empowered to make citizens’ arrests of illegal aliens and turn them in to authorities.
– Ready to show your papers? Mexico’s National Catalog of Foreigners tracks all outside tourists and foreign nationals. A National Population Registry tracks and verifies the identity of every member of the population, who must carry a citizens’ identity card. Visitors who do not possess proper documents and identification are subject to arrest as illegal aliens.
All of these provisions are enshrined in Mexico’s Ley General de Población (General Law of the Population) and were spotlighted in a 2006 research paper published by the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Security Policy. There’s been no public clamor for “comprehensive immigration reform” in Mexico, however, because pro-illegal alien speech by outsiders is prohibited.
Consider: Open-borders protesters marched freely at the Capitol building in Arizona, comparing GOP Gov. Jan Brewer to Hitler, waving Mexican flags, advocating that demonstrators “Smash the State,” and holding signs that proclaimed “No human is illegal” and “We have rights.”
But under the Mexican constitution, such political speech by foreigners is banned. Noncitizens cannot “in any way participate in the political affairs of the country.” In fact, a plethora of Mexican statutes enacted by its congress limit the participation of foreign nationals and companies in everything from investment, education, mining and civil aviation to electric energy and firearms. Foreigners have severely limited private property and employment rights (if any).
As for abuse, the Mexican government is notorious for its abuse of Central American illegal aliens who attempt to violate Mexico’s southern border. The Red Cross has protested rampant Mexican police corruption, intimidation and bribery schemes targeting illegal aliens there for years. Mexico didn’t respond by granting mass amnesty to illegal aliens, as it is demanding that we do. It clamped down on its borders even further. In late 2008, the Mexican government launched an aggressive deportation plan to curtain illegal Cuban immigration and human trafficking through Cancun.
Meanwhile, Mexican consular offices in the United States have coordinated with left-wing social justice groups and the Catholic Church leadership to demand a moratorium on all deportations and a freeze on all employment raids across America.
Mexico is doing the job Arizona is now doing — a job the U.S. government has failed miserably to do: putting its people first. Here’s the proper rejoinder to all the hysterical demagogues in Mexico (and their sympathizers here on American soil) now calling for boycotts and invoking Jim Crow laws, apartheid and the Holocaust because Arizona has taken its sovereignty into its own hands:
Hipócritas.

Arizona Officials Dispute Racial Profiling ChargesPosted on April 28, 2010 by U.S. Constitutional Free Press

by Robert M. Engstrom

The legislator who wrote Arizona’s tough new immigration enforcement law, as well as a growing number of law enforcement officials, say the legislation can be fairly implemented without racial profiling or discrimination.

The bill’s author, state Sen. Russell K. Pearce (R-District 18), said that deportation, not profiling, is the laws opponents’ main concern.

“They are worried about the laws being enforced,” Pearce said.

America’s toughest sheriff, Maricopa County’s Joe Arpaio, said the law was necessary because the federal government has failed in its mandate to enforce immigration statutes and secure the border.

“We know how to enforce immigration laws without racial profiling,” Arpaio said. “They won’t be grabbing people off of street corners.”

He rejected critic’s claims that the new law drains resources from law enforcement agencies, calling it an excuse “critics and politicians use because they don’t like us enforcing illegal immigration laws.”

Arpaio, the target of a year-long Justice Department investigation that has yet to uncover any wrongdoing for his aggressive immigration-enforcement policies, said he hopes the uproar over the new law will prod Washington to “get something done.” He said that if Arizona’s law forces the White House and Congress to take some action, the effort will have been worthwhile—and will have the added benefit of opening more jobs for citizens and legal residents.

Arpaio said he considers the law another tool for the state’s law enforcement officers who deal with violent criminals, immigrants and smugglers daily. He said under the new law officers will ask for an ID or driver’s license, and the persons’ date and place of birth. He said having no driver’s license or ID, or an admission of being in the country illegally, is reasonable suspicion to detain a suspect.

“If we show they’re illegal, we can actually arrest them and put them in our jails,” Arpaio said. “I think they are afraid that other states will follow this new law that’s now been passed.”

Pearce, Arpaio and a number of other state officials believe the absence of federal action to address the rising level of crime and violence across the porous Mexican border forced the state to act.

Gov. Jan Brewer said Monday that Arizona waited 15 years for federal action before “stepping up.”

Pinal County Sheriff Paul R. Babeu said the goal of every peace officer charged to uphold the laws of the state is “to serve honorably” as they wield the “awesome authority entrusted” to them.

Babeu said enforcing the law, SB 1070, is no different for law enforcement officers than the duties they perform every day. He said officer training includes high standards of moral conduct regarding constitutional rights, Fourth Amendment search and seizure, and the rules of investigation leading up to probable cause for arrest.

“I have full faith and confidence in every one of my deputies that we can do this. We will not tolerate racial profiling,” Babeu said. Any deputy or police officer found to have violated the rules “will be held fully accountable … including termination.”

Babeu said that Pinal County, a rural area between Tucson and Phoenix, has become a funnel for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants where smugglers of humans and drugs are armed and utilizing increasingly sophisticated communications and methods to avoid law enforcement. He said that over a 30-day period there were 64 high-speed pursuits involving smugglers, with several multiple fatality crashes, making it “increasingly risky” for the state’s law enforcement officials and residents.

Kearny Police Chief Joe Martinez called critics’ concerns unfounded, saying the Arizona law enforcement community includes a large number of Hispanics.

“We’ve never had a policy of racial profiling,” Martinez said at a town hall meeting for Sen. John McCain (R.-Ariz.). “In fact, quite the contrary, it’s been outlawed. I’m one Hispanic who is more in love with my country than the color of my skin.”

Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board Director Lyle Mann said officials are reviewing the governor’s executive order and will do “all it needs to do” to meet the governor’s demands.

“Anytime there’s a new law, we have to start thinking about what we’re going to do,” Mann said. “This is a training issue and we do what we have to do to facilitate training of police officers. We’ll do what has to be done.”

The AZPOST board of directors includes the Arizona attorney general, the directors of the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Arizona Department of Corrections, several county sheriffs and local police departments. Gov. Jan Brewer also requested the board make recommendations on possible improvements to SB 1070 before the end of the year. At present, the law gives Arizona law enforcement agencies authority to enforce the federal law that already applies to everyone in Arizona.

Neville Cramer, retired special agent in the Department of Justice’s Immigration and Naturalization Service, said he supports the law and believes Arizona has sent a strong message to Washington.

“Training is going to make or break this law,” said Cramer, “It’s a great bill and will serve a purpose.”

Cramer said that for the bill to be a success, three criteria must be met. Officers need to be taught about different nationalities, he said. Training about different immigration documents is required, and officers will receive training on how to avoid racial profiling.”

Bryan Soller, president of Fraternal Order of Police’s Mesa Lodge No. 9, said the law is “not going to change the way we do business and officers have discretion in enforcing it.”

“I don’t see us running amok with the law,” Soller said. “We’ll make it work.”

N.Va. enforces immigration laws as Ariz. rages

The national outcry over Arizona’s immigration law is nothing new for Prince William County residents — hundreds ofpeople on both sides of the illegal immigration debate poured into marathon public hearings in fall 2007 when the county was passing its crackdown.

Since then, the county has turned over more than 2,000 suspected illegal immigrants to the federal government, and crime last year reached a 15-year low.

Other Northern Virginia jurisdictions also have turned over hundreds of suspected illegal immigrants to Immigration and Customs Enforcement through their own programs.

But law enforcement officials remain wary about their new roles enforcing federal law, and immigration experts and immigrant advocates warn that such steps can have negative consequences, such as racial profiling and a loss of trust with local police.

Implementing Prince William’s crackdown involved drafting a legally soundpolicy and training hundreds of officers, as well as conducting a significant community outreach program with more than 300 meetings, said Deputy Police Chief Barry Barnard.

“It was a new role for us,” he said. “Traditionally, local law enforcement doesn’t enforce immigration laws.”

The county partnered with the federal government under the 287(g) program, which allows local law enforcement officials to enforce certain immigration laws.

Prince William’s original proposal was so sweeping that it asked county officials if it would be possible to keep illegal immigrants off county roads and away from the county Web site.

Al Sharpton: We’re Ready to Commit Civil Disobedience Over Arizona Immigration Bill

Al Sharpton: We’re Ready to Commit Civil Disobedience Over Arizona Immigration Bill

Go Figure, Al Sharpton needs to spend some time in a Arizona Jail.   Maybe Joe the Sheriff will get to hold him
Posted by Jim Hoft on Sunday, April 25, 2010, 12:39 PM

70% of Arizona voters agree with new immigration legislation signed into law on Friday.
But, not Al Sharpton or Barack Obama .

(Seraphic Secret )

And, New York City’s Al Sharpton says he’s ready to organize protests and commit civil disobedience over the new Arizona immigration law.

The New York Post reported, via Free Republic :

The Rev. Al Sharpton says he will challenge Arizona’s new immigration bill in court and on the streets.

Sharpton is joining Lillian Rodriguez Lopez from the Hispanic Federation to announce a legal challenge to the bill. They say activists are also prepared to commit civil disobedience to fight the Arizona immigration bill.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed the bill Friday. It requires police to question people about their immigration status — including asking for identification — if they suspect someone is in the country illegally.

The law will take effect in late July or early August.

At least he gave the police a warning. Now they can be ready for him.

Rev Al…. where  were you when this WHITE RANCHER’S civil rights were violated???

You didn’t even consider standing up for this man’s  rights !!!

Murdered Rancher’s Family Asks for Troops Along Mexican Border

Arizona Farming & Ranching Hall of Fame

Arizona rancher Robert Krentz, pictured here in 2008, was killed on his own property 35 miles outside of the border town of Douglas, Ariz.

PHOENIX — The family of a rancher who was shot and killed on his land in southeastern Arizona is hoping his death will bring better security along the border with Mexico.

Robert Krentz was killed March 25. Some Arizona officials say he was likely a victim of Mexico-based drug traffickers, but Cochise County investigators say they don’t have a motive or suspects.

In a statement released Saturday, Krentz’s family urged the U.S. government to “immediately order deployment of the active U.S. military” to the border.

Arizona’s ranching community has been asking for increased border security for years, an issue that’s now getting the attention they say it deserves.

New Mexico ordered more National Guardsmen to the border to beef up surveillance in the wake of the rancher’s death.

And maybe  Rev Al  can explain this:

A report issued by Maricopa County’s Attorney General Andrew Thomas in October 2008 reveals the extent of Arizona’s problem with crime committed by illegal immigrants.
In 2007, illegal immigrants accounted for:

10% of sex crimes convictions
11% of murders convictions
13% of stolen cars convictions
13% of aggravated assaults convictions
17% of those sentenced for violent crimes
19% of those sentenced for property crimes
20% of those sentenced for felony DUI
21% of crimes committed with weapons
34% of those sentenced for the manufacture, sale or transport of drugs
36% of those sentenced for kidnapping
44% of forgeries
50% of those sentenced for crimes related to “chop shops”
85% of false ID convictions
96% of smuggling convictions

Illegal immigrants make up 19 percent of those convicted of crimes in Maricopa County and 21 percent of those in county jails.

Illegal immigrants make up an estimated 9 percent of the county’s population.

It is estimated that each violent crime cost citizens $20,000, and each property crime cost citizens $4363 per offense.

Do us a favor and keep your ‘Tawana Bradley’ civil discourse ass at home !  Arizonia has enough problems to deal …. they don’t need your help !!!!

A victory for the Good Guys, finally, except Identity Inc is still getting 30k out of us.  But otherwise, NO PESO’s for Casa De Maryland, the Organization who assists Illegal Aliens in our Communities and Steal our Jobs and Raise the Cost of Living in Maryland to the tune of 1.4 billion in Tax Dollars.

Through the joint efforts of the members of Help Save Maryland and People for Change in Prince George’s County, the proposed Bond Funding for CASA de Maryland (Central American Solidarity Association) was stopped dead in its tracks!
CASA, using the Montgomery and Prince George’s County House and Senate delegations like puppets, demanded $500K for their so-called “multi-cultural center” in Langley Park, Prince George’s County.  This multi-million dollar sink-hole has already taken enough of the Maryland taxpayer’s hard earned money.
Last month, members of HSM and PFC testified on a Saturday before House and Senate Committees to demand an end to the gravy train for CASA de Maryland.  It worked!  Zero dollars have been allocated for CASA.
Let’s all keep an eye on Governor Martin O’Malley as he came forward last year to provide CASA with $1 million from the Governor’s personal slush fund for the Langley Park facility. With Bob Erhlich breathing down his neck, I wonder if O’Malley will be so bold this year??
On a similar note, another illegal alien support group, Identity Inc of Gaithersburg, Montgomery County, also attempted to hoodwink the citizens of our state for $350K for their new and improved “Hispanic gang club house”.  HSM and PFC members also testified against this waste of money.  Identity Inc’s demand for $350K was slashed to $30K.  That is still $30K too much!

Fearful, angry Latinos might shun Census

I guess they don’t want to get caught, well the Illegal Ones, but hey, you did take a chance crossing, didn’t you?  Then registering under False Pretence’s and Getting Motor Voter Privs in Maryland, but, you don’t want Amnesty, you want a free ride to send all your American Dollars back to the Mother Land and keep Legal Immigrant and Citizens Unemployed, raising our Social Service Costs, Incarceration Cost, etc. Heck, maybe I will boycott the census, if they are allowed, then we can too, right?

(Reuters) – Latinos are the biggest minority in the United States but they could jeopardize a chance to flex their newfound political muscle as millions of them dodge a nationwide census.

U.S.

Many of the millions of illegal Hispanic immigrants fear that filling in the 10-question census forms could increase their risk of deportation. Others are frustrated with President Barack Obama’s slow start on immigration reforms.

A poll by the Pew Research Center showed that one-third of Hispanics have not even heard of the 2010 Census, a $14 billion effort to map the nation’s population.

“I would say that more than 50 percent of the Latino community will not participate in the census,” said Juan Carlos Ruiz, a Peruvian-born activist with the Latino Federation of Greater Washington.

“The problem is that by not participating we will be missing a big opportunity from a political, economic, social and even cultural point of view,” said Ruiz who helped organize huge immigrant marches in 2006.

There are an estimated 50 million Hispanics in the United States. Under-representation in the census could hurt access to federal funding for their communities. An updated snapshot of the population, the census is designed in part to help the government allocate $400 billion of federal funding.

An accurate count should in theory translate into more teachers, heath facilities and infrastructure in heavily Latino neighborhoods. It should also boost Hispanics’ political clout by giving largely Latino districts more seats in the U.S. House of Representatives after redistricting.

DEPORTATION FEARS

In Mount Pleasant, a heavily-Latino neighborhood in Washington dotted with colorful stores, many residents are there illegally and give vague answers to strangers, their eyes constantly scanning the street.

Waiting at a corner to be picked up for a day’s work at a construction site, Jose Ricardo said he didn’t see the point of the census.

“I don’t think I’ll do it. Politicians never do anything for us,” said the 35-year old Salvadorean, black woolen cap down low over his eyes.

Tens of thousands gathered last weekend near the White House to remind President Barack Obama they are still waiting for the promised immigration reform that helped draw Latinos to the polls in record numbers when he was elected in 2008.

Deportation is a constant fear for millions who are in the United States without legal papers. “Removals” of illegal workers jumped by 23.5 percent to almost 357,000 in the 2008 fiscal year, according to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Immigration reform, which former President George W. Bush tried but failed to deliver, could offer about 10.7 million people, 80 percent of them Latino, a path to legalization.

BOYCOTT?

Some groups are calling for a boycott of the census unless the Obama administration stops the deportations.

“We have no other choice left than taking such radical actions as this one. We are obliged by moral responsibility,” said Rev. Miguel Rivera, head of the National Coalition of Latino Clergy and Christian Leaders.

Rivera said 38 percent of his congregation is made up of undocumented immigrants and they are afraid the Census Bureau will pass information on to other federal agencies, despite reassurances that the information is confidential.

“For an undocumented immigrant there is no benefit … We believe some 3.5 million members of our congregations are not going to participate in the census,” he said.

Voto Latino, a non-profit encouraging civil participation among young Hispanics, calls the boycott “irresponsible”.

It has recruited Hollywood stars from Jennifer Lopez to Eva Longoria for its “Be Counted” campaign and is trying to counter the boycott by offering free downloads of songs from artists like merengue star Juan Luis Guerra.

“It’s very misguided logic to boycott the census because if we don’t know how many immigrants there are in this country how can you ever advocate for immigration reform?,” said the group’s deputy director Josh Norek.

Still, Hispanics in Mount Pleasant and across the country complain about the administration’s failure to push hard for immigration reform so far in a nation where tortillas outsell bread in some cities.

Obama dedicated only 12 seconds to immigration reform in his State of the Union address in January. Ruiz said it was an “insult” to the Latino community.

“There is a lot of frustration, a growing sentiment against the Obama administration for its lack of action,” said Ruiz, who campaigned for Obama in 2008 and still has a “Latinos for Obama” sticker on his laptop.

The Census Bureau promises that the information it gathers will not lead to deportations. “Everybody needs to be counted. We do not ask someone’s migration status, we do not ask someone’s social security number. Everything is strictly confidential,” said its head of publicity, Raul Cisneros.

Some in the streets of Mount Pleasant seem to be getting the message. “It’s very important we get counted. If you’re interested in the migration reform then you have to make yourself heard,” said Alcices, a 42-year old Salvadorean construction worker who skipped the last census in 2000.

MontCo welcomes illegals, as neighbors crack down

Mont Co welcomes illegals, as neighbors crack down

Montgomery County is opening its doors to illegal immigrants as its neighbors around the Washington region crack down on them.

While counties across the area are slamming their doors shut to illegals through federal enforcement, Montgomery County’s communication with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials is limited to a weekly fax of names. And now the county is fighting an effort to crack down statewide.

The county’s Department of Corrections sends the name of every inmate detained on charges of violent crime — without regard to their immigration status — to ICE weekly, according to county spokesman Patrick Lacefield.

“If the arrest is not for [violent crime], then ICE will NOT be contacted, regardless of the individual’s legal status and/or gang affiliation,” county policy reads.

Political Correctness to the Nth Degree – USCIS Writes About E-Verify

Political Correctness to the Nth Degree – USCIS Writes About E-Verify

It’s wonderful what one can do with the language.

Supposing you work for a government agency that has just improved its anti-bank-robbery program.

Could you write a press release about it without using the words “bank” or “robber”? Well, USCIS has pulled off a comparable feat visa-a-vis the E-Verify program, whose sole purpose in life is preventing illegal aliens from getting jobs.

The press release in question, entitled “DHS Unveils Initiatives To Enhance E-Verify,” manages to run for more than a page without mentioning the words “illegal alien,” “undocumented worker,” or even the fundamental purpose of the program.

It is a real accomplishment.

E-Verify is a useful, massive data-base, electronic program which gives employers a chance to compare data on people they have just hired with USCIS and Social Security files. If the worker’s data does not jibe with the government files, and if he or she cannot subsequently resolve any problems found, then the employer may fire the worker. The point is to keep illegal aliens from being hired.

What DHS has done is to work out an arrangement with the Department of Justice to zap employers who misuse the E-Verify program, to provide a telephone system for workers whose data does not immediately match the government data, and to train people, in English and Spanish, to identify misuses of the system.

Useful measures, to be sure, but none are designed to make it tougher for illegal aliens to get jobs. Do the measures “enhance” the program or do they simply make it harder to misuse? Not that there is any real evidence that misuse is much of a problem.

The USCIS press release writers manage to get close to the neighborhood of the purpose of the program when they speak of helping “employers across the country maintain a legal workforce,” and when they talk of the “Department’s efforts to protect critical employment opportunities.”

But there are no mentions of enforcing the immigration law, or the crass objective of sorting out illegal workers from legal ones.
